Jim McMillan is a Professor Emeritus of Art at Guilford College. The retrospective exhibition spanned five decades of this African-American artist’s career as a painter, sculptor, activist and educator in Europe and the United States. The exhibit included drawings, paintings, and sculpture representing the artist¹s stylistic development, which was influenced by a variety of experiences ranging from growing up in rural North Carolina, to studying in Paris, to his involvement in the Pacific confrontation during World War II, and to his activism in the civil rights movement.
