The Guilford College Art Gallery art collection has grown considerably thanks to the generosity of many donors. Approximately every five years the gallery organizes an exhibition to highlight recent acquisitions and to recognize the donors and supporters who are helping to develop and expand its permanent collection.Featuring a selection of works of art given to the college since 2003, this exhibition presents these important new acquisitions to the public for the first time. Among the highlights are a 19th century engraving after Lilly Martin Spencer, a double-sided sketchbook page attributed to Eugene-Louis Boudin, a rich variety of 19th, 20th and 21st century Asian prints, and ceramics by North Carolina potters Tom Suomalainen and Al McCanless. A section of the exhibit includes recent award-winning selections from the Art Department’s annual honors senior thesis exhibitions.

Recent gifts of art from Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Hurwitz, Jennifer and Alan Pensler ’74, David and Carol DeVries ’03, Caroline Maness ’89, Cyril and Judith Weller Harvey, The Freeman Foundation, Qikeng Li, Xuewu Zheng, Tom Ray, Linda Nelson, Kitty Hubbard ’87, Nancy Gotter Gates, and Abel Ndingwan are featured. These donors have demonstrated their commitment to the Gallery’s mission and we are deeply grateful for their leadership.
