Teaching. Learning, and Research Collaboratory

The Teaching, Learning, and Research Collaboratory is now open!  This area includes two uniquely aligned learning spaces, one focused on collaboration and creation, and one an experimental classroom, which support faculty and students across the curriculum, across disciplines, for creative approaches to pedagogy and scholarship. All furnishings and technology are be completely flexible, and a moveable partition will allow the space to be opened for large gatherings.

The IDEA Incubator

This space is located on the second floor of the Library in the Teaching, Learning, and Research Collaboratory (directly above the Greenleaf @ Hege Café), adjoining the newly established offices for the Directors of Faculty Development and Undergraduate Research and Creative Endeavors. The space is dedicated for faculty, staff, and/or students to gather for one hour each Wednesday (1:30-2:30pm) to brainstorm and discuss ideas based on a prescheduled topic or a call for help on a problem/project or for proposal building. This initiative was envisioned to provide dedicated time and a safe place for IDEAs to develop, community discussions to take place, and for folks to find and connect with each other and build collaborations!

  • Capacity: up to 50 depending on the type of seating required.

  • Anyone interested in proposing a topic should send information about their topic, facilitator, and requested date(s) to IDEAinc@guilford.edu

Carnegie Room

Scheduled only with approval from Library Director and Department of Reservations. Please see the reservation guidelines below. 

Betty Place Classroom

Betty Place is the Research & Educational Classroom for the College containing 20 student PCs and an instructor workstation. Priority use is for formal research sessions and faculty use. Faculty requests for course-specific research or technology instruction sessions should get in touch with the librarian with whom they would like to work. Though this classroom is primarily used for research sessions and faculty use, it is otherwise open for general computer use.

FlexLab

First come first serve (priority given to faculty members reserving for a class)  unless otherwise booked in advance. Reservations may be made a minimum of three (3) hours in advance or up to two (2) weeks in advance for one three (3)-hour period. More than 3 bookings are not permitted. Those using the room are requested to check the posted schedule and be prepared to vacate the room for scheduled reservations.

  • Available technology: 2 monitors with HDMI cables to connect and project laptops, 1 multi region dvd player, whiteboard wall, projector, TV with DVD/VHS combo for watching films.
  • Capacity: 15

The Hubs

The group study rooms in Hubs 1 and 2 are available for course-related study for groups and campus meetings of two to 15 people on a “first come, first served” basis unless otherwise booked in advance. Reservations may be made a minimum of three (3) hours in advance or up to two (2) weeks in advance for one three (3)-hour period. More than two consecutive bookings are not permitted. Those using the room are requested to check the posted schedule and be prepared to vacate the room for scheduled reservations.

Hub 1

  • Available technology: dual screen monitors to project from laptops and tablets (mac adapters and audio cables available for checkout at the information desk).
  • Capacity: 2-15

Hub 2

  • Available technology: monitor to project from laptops and tablets (mac adapters and audio cables available for checkout at the information desk).
  • Capacity: 2-15

Lower Level Glass Conference Room

Reservable for faculty and staff hosting meetings. If the room is not booked, it is available for course-related study and campus meetings of 2  to 15 people on a “first come, first served” basis.  Those using the room are requested to check the posted schedule and be prepared to vacate the room for scheduled reservations.

  • 2 large tables which can be combined for a meeting or separated for group work
