Technology Lending through the Mobile Edge Initiative

Current students, faculty, and staff can borrow a variety of technology and digital media equipment to support teaching and learning. Please see specific pages for students and for faculty to see available items for checkout.

Please note: A valid Quaker Card is required for all digital media checkouts. No exceptions can be made.

Equipment that is checked out from the library is due back by the specified date – if you don’t return it by that date and time, you will incur fines. If  the item is returned damaged you will be charged for repair or replacement. If you don’t return the equipment by 2 days after your equipment is due, you will be charged the replacement cost for that equipment. No exceptions will be made.

Please note that by any use of Library digital media is subject to the College's Network Acceptable Use Policy (NAUP) and the user is responsible for compliance with that policy.

Extended Loan Devices

Library and Learning Technologies works with faculty to provide devices on extended loan through the Mobile Edge initiative to enable students in need to engage in their coursework.. This includes Mac and PC laptops and tablets. A limited number of laptops with Adobe Creative Cloud are available for students enrolled in courses where Adobe CC is a requirement. All device requests must come through faculty via the Mobile Edge request form

Note: This extended device loaning service is intended to support students in need for the duration of up to three consecutive sessions (including summer).  Beyond that, we encourage students to invest in their own laptop computing devices to support their academic journeys in understanding of the fact that a laptop is an essential tool for academic success.

o   Please refer to these Computing Technology Recommendations for consideration of personally owned devices. Note that laptops are recommended.

o   Detailed purchasing information is provided in the Guilford College Discount Laptop Purchases guide.

We are not able to accept laptop requests directly from students; requests must come from your instructor using the request form that has been shared with them.  Please contact your instructor directly if you have not already heard from them.

Students will be required to fill out a borrowing contract via Google Form and will be responsible for any damages to the device or charger.

Devices will be checked out for the semester. Students will be responsible for returning the devices and charger on time to the  library by the specified due date and are responsible for all overdue and replacement fees due to damage or loss.

The extended device loaning service is intended to support students in need for the duration of up to one academic year.  Beyond that, we encourage students to invest in their own laptop computing devices to support their academic journeys in understanding of the fact that a laptop is an essential tool for academic success.

Please note that the library is able to provide devices for students only; faculty and staff should contact the ITS HelpDesk in Bauman.
