Service Alert
When considering your individual students’ needs, please understand that a limited number of devices are available for extended loan, and the requested use must demonstrate a true need for a device to complete the student’s course requirements. Library and Learning Technologies will make the determination of the device is best suited to lend to your student based on your stated needs. We ask you to keep in mind that:
Priority will be given for students who are working remotely and who have no alternative access, or who are sharing a device with other members of the household. Loaned devices do not include data plans for WiFi enablement. Requests must be received via the form. We cannot accept direct requests from students.
We encourage students to bring to campus personally owned mobile devices and to consider the laptop discount purchasing options available through the College to enable us to deploy the limited number of computing devices that we have to students who do not have a device and are truly in need:
Please refer your students to these Computing Technology Recommendations for consideration of personally owned devices. Note that laptops are recommended.
Detailed purchasing information is provided in the Guilford College Discount Laptop Purchases guide.
Students also may apply to the Guilford College Emergency Fund, which provides up to $500 in assistance, for laptop purchases.
PLEASE NOTE: The extended device loaning service is intended to support students in need for the duration of up to three consecutive sessions (including summer). Beyond that, we encourage students to invest in their own laptop computing devices to support their academic journeys in understanding of the fact that a laptop is an essential tool for academic success. Exceptions to this policy will be considered on a case-by-case basis with faculty.
The following laptops are available to request on behalf of students in need. Please note that an individual request form must be completed per student. Laptops come with the standard college image and are available on a first come first serve basis.
