In light of the situation with COVID-19, the library is working with faculty to provide devices to students in need to be able to complete their coursework. Please note the following:
We encourage students to bring to campus personally owned mobile devices and to consider the laptop discount purchasing options available through the College to enable us to deploy the limited number of computing devices that we have to students who do not have a device and are truly in need:
o Please refer to these Computing Technology Recommendations for consideration of personally owned devices. Note that laptops are recommended.
o Detailed purchasing information is provided in the Guilford College Discount Laptop Purchases guide.
o Students also may apply to the Guilford College Emergency Fund, which provides up to $500 in assistance, for laptop purchases.
We are not able to accept laptop requests directly from students; requests must come from your instructor using the request form that has been shared with them. Please contact your instructor directly if you have not already heard from them.
Students will be required to fill out a borrowing contract via Google Form and will be responsible for any damages to the device or charger.
Devices will be checked out for the session. Students will be responsible for returning the devices and charger on time to the Office of Public Safety by the specified due date and are responsible for all return shipping cost; and any overdue and/or replacement fees due to damage or loss. Students who are local and wish to do curbside pick-up and return may do so by scheduling an appointment with Access & Information Services Librarian, Liz Wade.
The extended device loaning service is intended to support students in need for the duration of up to three consecutive sessions (including summer). Additional renewals are not possible. We recommend considering the discount laptop purchasing information listed above.
