Abbreviated Historical Timeline

1871 – American missionaries Samuel and Gulielma Purdie arrive in Mexico. They soon start a school for girls in Matamoros, Tamaulipas.

1900 – Zenas Martin arrives in Cuba.

ca 1917 – American pastors and teachers have to leave Mexico.

1927 – Cuba becomes an independent Yearly Meeting.

1939 –American Friends Service Committee starts international work camps in Vera Cruz and Nayarit, Mexico.

1951 – Quaker families from Iowa and Alabama emigrate to Costa Rica.

1956 – Friends in Mexico City form Casa de los Amigos.
