HIST 215: Civil Rights Movement

The Internet Archive, a non-profit organization, is building a digital library of Internet sites and other cultural artifacts in digital form. Like a paper library, they provide free access to researchers, historians, scholars, and the general public.

Recipient of the Global Peace and Tolerance Award from the Friends of the United Nations, the Museum of Tolerance (MOT) is a human rights laboratory and educational center dedicated to challenging visitors to understand the Holocaust in both historic and contemporary contexts and confront all forms of prejudice and discrimination in our world today.

Dedicated on September 28, 1991, the Museum exists to assist the public in understanding the lessons of the Civil Rights Movement and its impact and influence on human rights movements worldwide, through its collections, exhibitions, research and educational programs. It chronicles the civil rights movement from 1619 to 2000 with historical exhibits, including Room 306, the hotel room where Dr. King stayed in April of 1968.

The Southern Poverty Law Center is a nonprofit civil rights organization dedicated to fighting hate and bigotry, and to seeking justice for the most vulnerable members of society. Their Teaching Tolerance units and lesson plans are available through this website.

This website is a broad-based, social science study (from Ithaca College, NY) of U.S. education involving history, philosophy, sociology, anthropology, economics, and politics. Its focus is contemporary issues in education, emphasizing issues of equity, diversity, multicultural education, and the development of effective schools for ALL students and families.
