Required Course Materials

Library and Learning Technologies is happy to support requests for electronic course required materials from faculty and to provide persistent links to those items. Faculty may share links to College subscribed content (articles, chapters, ebooks) anytime via Canvas, email, or Google Drive. Faculty also may scan a limited amount of personally acquired content intended for traditional reserve in compliance with "Fair Use" provisions of Section 107 of the Copyright Act, Title 17, U.S. Code to post in Canvas.

Discovery, Systems, & Digital Strategies Librarian, Liz Wade, is available to provide assistance with the following: 

  • Consultation on identification and use of library-owned ebooksjournal subscription and database content, and streaming media resources
  • Consultation on copyright and fair use related to resources identified by faculty for course use
  • New purchase requests for ebooks and streaming media licenses (KanopyFilms on Demand etc…) Please note that these requests must be received no later than one week in advance of the date needed in order to ensure proper licensing
  • Consultation on Open Educational Resources (OERs) that can be used in place of or to supplement traditional textbooks

TERMS OF USE FOR COURSE REQUIRED MATERIALS:

  • Persistent links provided at the request of faculty are only for the noncommercial, educational use of students. 
  • Authentication is required to access all links through the College’s systems. 
  • In the interests of ensuring equitable and timely access to required course materials for all students, Library and Learning Technologies is committed to its support of e-resources, prioritizing course-required acquisitions of resources to those providing unlimited simultaneous access.
  • Requests for purchase of new resources are processed in the order they are received. Due to the high volume of requests received at the beginning of each semester, all requests must be received 72 hours in advance to ensure timely processing and availability.
  • As a general policy, Library and Learning Technologies does not purchase physical copies of textbooks, nor materials such as course packs and test banks available to rent through publishers or other sites, which are required by instructors for use in courses.
