Canvas for Students

A student-centered guide for using Canvas

Getting Started With Assignments

You will able to submit a number of different assignment types via Canvas. The type, rubric, and due date are all dependent upon your instructor and your class. Please consult your syllabus for more details about assignments, rubrics, and due dates.

Anything submitted as part of a graded assignment is automatically copied to your user files (these files do not count against your file quota). Remember that once a file has been uploaded as a submission, it cannot be deleted. All of these files are stored in the Submissions folder.

The following videos will give you an overview of how the submission process works. Links to text versions are at the bottom of this page.

Getting Started With Quizzes

You can easily take a quiz by accessing the Quizzes page. Depending on how your instructor set up the quiz, questions may be shown all on one page or one at a time. If you are unable to finish a quiz you may be able to resume it at a later time. It's important to note that Canvas has recently rolled out New Quizzes, which "include a series of feature enhancements and new item types, and bring workflow improvements" as compared to Quizzes Classic. Most instructors at Guilford College should be using New Quizzes. The following video gives a brief overview of the quiz-taking process:
