Little River Preparative Meeting (Woodville)

Location: Correspondence: graveyard “at Woodville, Perquimans County, east of U.S. Highway 17, at the deadend of the old stage road, now labeled in part as Swayne’s Lane” (CC). Perquimans County, N.C.

Timeline: Started ca. 1700 under Symon's Creek MM (Weeks). 1744: Land “lying round the meeting house on the head of Little River” deeded to Quakers, dated 2-15-1744, registered 5-15-1744, Perquimans Co. (PA. D) 
Meeting laid down ca 1854. (Weeks, CC: Eastern Quarter file)
1854-55: Little River meeting house and part of lot sold. “Burying ground to be fenced in and a portion of the remainder of lot reserved for future burials….” 1857: “East part of lot up to the graveyard was sold to the owners of a steam saw mill adjoining the lot, for $37.50.” 1870: A committee was appointed to care for the (eastern) graveyards. 1874: Burying ground enclosed. Survey: None. Early Quakers thought carved stones were pretentious.
