A regional group of Friends formed in 1956, and organized in 1959 as Southern Appalachian Association of Friends (SAAF). Southern Appalachian Yearly Meeting and Association became a yearly Meeting in 1970.
SAYMA includes monthly meetings and worship groups in Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and West Virginia. Monthly meetings are Asheville, Athens, Atlanta, Berea, Birmingham, Celo, Chattanooga, Columbia, Cookeville, Crossville, Foxfire (VA), Greenville (SC), Huntsville, Memphis, Nashville, Oxford, and West Knoxville. See Inactive Monthly Meetings under the Monthly Meetings tab for Anneewakee Creek, Boone and Brevard. Auburn MM disbanded with no records at either Guilford College or Swarthmore College.
